New quality seal for energy-saving air-con and ventilation

Companies and municipalities can now have new air-conditioning and ventilation equipment marked with the “Raumlufttechnik” quality seal. It is awarded to particularly efficient and economic equipment and thus helps people save energy.

Outdoors, temperatures are becoming more summery, indoors, the peak season for air-condition and ventilation is beginning. The new “Raumlufttechnik” quality seal helps companies and municipalities to focus on energy efficiency and save money even at the planning stage of new buildings, without losing out on fresh indoor air and a cool breeze in the office.

This is necessary because over-sized equipment which ventilates unused rooms or provides all the rooms with too great an air flow will use more energy than is necessary, even if the ventilator itself is efficient.

Good indoor air, low energy consumption

The right equipment can make a big difference, particularly for buildings with a lot of technical equipment and high air flows, e.g. hospitals, cultural facilities, universities, large kitchens, sports facilities and industrial buildings. Experts say that there is particularly great potential to save energy here, because people tend not to check the actual energy efficiency of the equipment in their buildings, which may differ from the planned figures for the buildings. The Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control provides an example of how to save energy in its information on the quality seal (in German only): “If an institute building with laboratory ventilation cuts the flow of outside air in physical laboratories and auxiliary areas to what is actually needed, and optimises the duct pressure control in real time, it can save €8,000 in energy costs, 70MWh of energy and 42 tonnes of CO2,” it says.
