Minister Habeck on the accelerated roll-out of smart meters
The draft legislation adopted by the cabinet on the relaunch of the digitalisation of the energy transition aims to make the best possible use of smart meters for the accelerated energy transition. The benefits for consumers are explained (in German) by Robert Habeck in this video.

What exactly are smart meters? Households and businesses can use smart meters to improve and facilitate the way they manage their electricity consumption and their feed-in of electricity, e.g. from photovoltaics, and to benefit from new tariffs. Also, smart meters make it possible for renewable energy installations and controllable consumers like electric cars and heat pumps to be efficiently integrated into the electricity grid.
